Message from our Principal

Tena koutou katoa, kā mihi ki te whānau o te Ōkahau
Greetings to all families of Warrington.

We are a Year 1-8, decile 8, full primary school, currently operating 3 innovative spacious classrooms on a growing school roll, 25 minutes north of Dunedin. At Warrington School we want every child to ”Ka eke te Ngaru – Ride the Wave”, through our school’s values of Respect (Whakaute), Responsibility (Takohaka), and Resilience (Aumakeataka), Our strategic plan sets the direction for our school for the next 2 years.

Each child’s learning pathway is unique and we work in partnership with the home to help understand and develop the whole child. We want our learners to show initiative and have a passion for their own learning in a safe, supportive, positive, and happy environment. Our students are confident, able to make good decisions, and are actively encouraged to participate in a wide variety of learning, sport, and cultural activities. Within the school, our teachers provide learning environments that are bright, interesting, and stimulating. We also have a hockey turf and our own heated swimming pool for the students to use during the year.

Our curriculum is designed to emphasize reading and writing as well as develop strong numeracy skills. Our students frequently spend time enjoying and learning in our local environment with strong links to the local Puketeraki Marae. Our students benefit from a rich localised curriculum that provides authentic learning contexts beyond the classroom. Students play an active role in leading their own learning with many opportunities for student leadership and participation in a wide range of activities that develop confidence and resilience.

We give the children real and relevant contexts for learning, and this will often involve trips outside the classroom and school. The school is very well equipped with up-to-date technology to ensure equitable access for all children in the community for on-site and online learning at home when the need arises.

We also have a strong focus on building a school-wide well-being culture to support and build resilience in our learners. We have a team of very dedicated, responsive, and caring teachers whom I’m very proud to have teaching alongside myself at Warrington School. We also have strong parent and community involvement, and highly value these partnerships. Our students are a very special group. Friendly, confident, and with a strong motivation to learn.

If you wish to see this for yourself in action or ask any questions, please make an appointment at the school office to come to have a look around.

He waka eke noa – We are in this together!

Kā mihi nui,
